The Mekong Delta is one of Vietnam’s main tourist attractions. The delta lies 50 miles south of Saigon (70 km). In the Mekong Delta, tourists can do many excursions around its canals, where floating markets are still the place where locals exchange goods.

Cai Be Floating Market is a famous place in Mekong Delta, here the Tien River forms the border between Tien Giang, Vinh Long and Ben Tre Provinces. Every day, approximately 400 -500 boats filled with fruits, vegetables and other products anchor a long the banks of the river, waiting for traders and customers. The merchandise sold in each boat is hung on a high pole in front of the boat as a sample to attract customers from a distance.

In the past, Can Tho was bestowed the title Tay Do (Capital of the Western Provinces), and remains the rice centre of the south-west. As well as substantial rice and fruit tree resources, Can Tho is a production centre for fresh-water seafood. Can Tho’s urban picture is distinct, with a network of canals, trenches and channels, which act as streets rather than inconveniences.

The Mekong Delta is the bottom half of Vietnam’s two rice baskets (the other being the Red River Delta in the North). This vast delta is formed by the deposition of the multiple tentacles and tributaries of the mighty Mekong River which has its origin in the Tibetan highland plateau 2,800 miles away. From its source, the river makes its way through China, Myanmar (Burma), Laos, Cambodia and South Vietnam

One of the very beautiful place of the Mekong delta - Chau Doc, as close as you can get to Cambodia without being in it. The Bassac River flows through the town and is a border crossing for river borne traffic, and the small Sam Mountain has an excellent view of the flat plain on the other side. It’s an attractive, busy place with a good hotel and several interesting attractions.
